Academic success is important, but some of the most valuable lessons children learn at school go far beyond the classroom. In a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, Helen Farmer spoke with Nick Hart, Principal of Horizon English School Town Square, about the importance of the “hidden curriculum” and the life skills that help children thrive both in school and beyond.

Nick discussed why qualities such as confidence, communication, emotional intelligence and resilience are just as important as academic achievement. He highlighted the role schools play in helping children navigate friendships, resolve conflicts, develop a sense of purpose and build the confidence to face new challenges. The conversation also explored the return of KHDA inspections, the value of looking beyond inspection ratings when choosing a school, and the importance of creating environments where children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

For parents, Nick shared a powerful message: when children leave school believing they can succeed and make a positive difference through their actions, they are equipped with skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
